Everything You Need to Know About Under-Eye Filler
If you’re dealing with a loss of volume under the eyes, you’ve probably wondered what options are out there for correction. There are several options available, but the right one for you will depend on the cause of the issue.
What are the Best Uses for Under-Eye Filler?
Under-eye filler is typically used to add volume to “tear troughs”, or deflated, hollowed areas just below the lower eyelid. These troughs are most often caused by age-related volume loss. Dark circles often accompany tear troughs. By injecting a dermal filler into this area, we are able to plump these troughs back up and revive the eye’s youthful appearance.
Issues Under-Eye Filler Will Not Correct
It’s important to know the cause of your tear troughs because under-eye problems caused by some issues cannot be remedied with under-eye filler. This includes:
- Bags under the eyes due to fat deposits
- Dark spots due to genetic factors (i.e. true hyperpigmentation)
- Loss of volume under the eye due to dehydration
How Do I Prepare for Under-Eye Filler?
The first step is to consult with a physician or medical professional experienced in the under-eye filler, to include a full health history. If you have chronic health conditions, you may want to consult with your primary care physician before getting an under-eye filler. You will be advised to stop taking any medications or supplements that can increase bruising about a week before your appointment, including aspirin, NSAIDs, Ginkgo Biloba, ginseng, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, and vitamin E.
What Should I Expect at the Appointment?
Once you’re called back for your appointment, you’ll lay back and relax while we explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have thought of since your consultation. Once you’re satisfied, you can choose to receive a numbing agent in the area. If you do, you’ll have to wait a bit longer while the numbing agent takes effect. Once you’re numb, we will strategically inject hyaluronic acid filler around the under-eye area, filling in deflated areas and contouring for the most natural appearance possible. Once the filler is injected, you’re good to go!
Are There Any Side Effects?
Clients very rarely experience any issue more than minor bruising that subsides in a few days. However, if there are any issues, a hyaluronic acid filler can be reversed easily with a simple injection.
How Long Will the Results Last?
Under-eye filler results are immediate and last up to 12 months, although some clients don’t need more until 18 months later!
